Day 5: George Town, Grand Cayman

Well, the weather struck again. Our visit to Stingray City to snorkel and play was canceled due to rough waters. With the help of the amazing Disney cast on board we were able to switch it out for a glass bottom boat tour. The best thing about the tour was a not so gentle reminder that Disney service is unmatched anywhere! And sometimes, Port Adventures operated by other companies pale in comparison.
We got to the tour office OK, but then waited on a bus for almost an hour. Over and over we were told, just 10 minutes more. I guess the time thing is just applicable to Mormons and Mexico! We finally got to the boat and then watched a bunch of rocks on the bottom of the sea for an hour. We saw two stingrays, a ways off, but that was the highlight. Not much else to say on that.
The Caymans are the only Tender Port on this cruise. What that means is, rather than pulling up to a dock, the ship drops anchor and we ferry over to the port. It was probably the best part of the excursion. After some quick shopping we got back on board, happy to be back in the mouse’s loving embrace. This was a place where we probably would have liked to spend more time, but oh well, you live and learn. When we come back, we will have a better idea of what to do and what not to do.
Dinner tonight was at Lumiere’s again. I think Alicia recognized that we had a disappointing day. She offered to “pick dessert” for us tonight. She came back with 5 different desserts. I guess she knows us already. We finished the night back in the movie theatre to see The Proposal. I think everyone else in the theatres enjoyed it more than we did. A quick word about the live shows on board. The first night had some good moments, with the ventriloquist and Alfred and Seymour, but otherwise it was pretty lame. We saw both of the extended shows for the ventriloquist and the comedians, and they had their moments, but they were only so so. We will keep trying. We are wondering if it is because we are without the children. The Cinderella stage show had a mechanical problem halfway through and we took that as our cue to get the heck out, which we graciously did. Last night was a new show called Once Upon a Song. We slept through it. We are very, very old.
