Day 2: Key West, Florida

Today was our first day in port. Our first stop is in Key West Florida, which is the southernmost tip of Florida. It is a balmy 45 degrees, and it looks like it could rain at any moment. We had a Port Adventure planned for today, a glass bottom boat tour of the largest coral reef in North American waters. However, with the wind and potential rain, the swells in the water are too great, and it has been canceled. With this being our first Port, and as opposed to scrambling for something new, we decided to simply take a nice leisurely stroll through town.
It is definitely a surprise to see people wearing hats and gloves in Southern Florida. We have been told that several larger stores in town are sold out of them. Oh well, still better than the 12 degree weather we left at home. This is a sort of strange city. There are a bunch of small malls along the dock that has all kinds of stores in them, even one with an exotic bird show? We skipped the show when the creepy attendant started talking to us. At least we think he was an attendant, either that or an overzealous fan. It is a little strange to see Hagen-Das store next to $5.00 for everything inside store. We were also a little put off by the cleanliness on the street, but probably should not have expected much from a town that had upscale jewelry stores right next to a tattoo parlor. We did get pulled into a store with a guy who loved to talk about Utah. He had apparently visited with his wife and they were anxious to go back.
We did not spend too much time on shore. It was cold and starting to rain, so after getting our Authentic Key Lime pie, we were safely tucked away and on board again. We had dinner in Animator’s Palate tonight. The food was ok and the dining room is interesting. Everything starts out black and white and then as the night progressed, the color came in. Before the dinner service ended, they had a short show when Mickey came out and did his thing, changing the whole restaurant into color. We saw Kevin Johnson in the Rockin Bar D tonight. He is a ventriloquist, pretty funny. I think we are still trying to get our sea legs and are feeling a little fuzzy in the head tonight. Hopefully it will get better.
